Why this is a legacy neighbourhood

Deer Ridge is a premier estate community on a hill, with large houses and high-value properties. The pools that went in twenty years ago, many of them ours, were built on a particularly forgiving soil profile, and they are still holding their shape, holding their water, and ready for their second generation of ownership.

What changes at the twenty-year mark isn’t the structure. It’s the liner.

What we know about the ground here

Deer Ridge sits on a rocky-sandy mix that drains exceptionally well. Compared to the wet clay zones or the lower sections of Laurelwood, this is the easiest ground to build in across our service area. Rocky-sandy soil is structurally stable, doesn’t expand or contract the way heavy clay does, and reduces the risk of hydrostatic pressure pushing on the pool shell after the build.

The neighbourhood is built on a hill, so individual lots tend to slope side-to-side or front-to-back. We level for that during excavation. The wider neighbourhood roads were designed for service vehicles, which means our maintenance trailers can work efficiently without blocking traffic.

The one practical access constraint: Deer Ridge homeowners build close to their lot lines. Houses are large, side yards are tight. We use compact excavators on most builds and renovations here.

How we build and service here

The pools we built in Deer Ridge in the early 2000s were built to last, and they have. The pool shell, the walls, and the structural plumbing are all intact after twenty years. What gets replaced is the liner and the equipment, which has its own service cycle.

Vinyl liners typically last eighteen to twenty years. The Deer Ridge pools we built in the early 2000s are now at that mark and approaching their first liner replacement. That is not a sign of a pool wearing out. It is a sign of a pool that was built well enough to still be worth maintaining.

On every pool we build, we run a filtered drain line beneath the liner. When the liner comes out, any water under the shell can be pumped out through that line, keeping the replacement clean and straightforward. Combined with the build records we keep on file for every pool we have installed, the liner replacement goes faster and cleaner because we know exactly what is underneath.

Where ownership has changed, and on a twenty-year-old pool it often has, we bring forward whatever history we have on file and walk the new owner through what has been done, what is coming, and what to watch for.

A representative project: Terrace Wood Crescent

A pool we built about twenty years ago on Terrace Wood Crescent shows what the lifecycle looks like at this end of the curve. The original installation included a custom pool, a spillover spa, and a natural stone patio surround. We chose natural stone over standard concrete materials because it ages with the pool rather than against it.

The property changed hands in 2020. We continued as the service provider through the transition, and we still maintain the pool today, including the spillover spa, which depends on the original pump and circulation design we put in twenty years earlier.

The pool is in excellent condition. The spillover spa still runs the way it was designed to run. The stone patio still looks fabulous.

Frequently asked questions

How long do vinyl pool liners last?

Typically eighteen to twenty years from installation. Some liners run longer with good water chemistry and conditions, but failure tends to be sudden rather than gradual, so liners approaching that age should be assessed before the next season.

My pool was built by Aquascapes twenty years ago. Will you still service it?

Yes. Long-term service is the core of what we do. If we built the pool we likely have the build records, and we'll service it for as long as it's in the ground.

I just bought a Deer Ridge property with an existing pool. Can you take it on?

Yes. We service vinyl pools across Kitchener regardless of original builder, and where we built or previously serviced the pool we can bring the history forward.

Do you handle spillover spa servicing?

Yes. Many of the integrated pools we built in Deer Ridge include spillover spas, and we maintain the spa side as part of the same service relationship.

Why does it matter if the original builder is the one servicing the pool?

At Aquascapes Recreational Contractors, we keep meticulous records of every plan, build and service record. We know the underlying structure, the original equipment specifications, and what was buried where. On twenty-year-old work, that knowledge isn't in any visible part of the pool. It's in the records.
